How to grow young tropical orchids in old aquarium?
I am planning to buy one or two young tropical orchids and was wondering how I could set them up a habitat in an old fishtank? Could anyone help me with some general information, like how to heat tank, lighting etc?
It would actually be easier to turn the question around a bit and have you tell us what orchids you'd like to put in the tank, and then we can tell you the other factors - orchids have quite a wide range of requirements; some plants people would regard as "tropical" aren't!
I was looking at getting a vanilla and cattelyas, but flowering size ones are a bit too expensive.
Would i be able to grow these in an aquarium and how would I do it? I'm still only beginning to realize how to look after orchids, but my cool temperature ones are doing well and I would like to expand my collection. If I kept them in an aquarium would I have to grow them in pots?
I'm not sure, but do odontoglossum and cymbidiums count as tropical ones? My house temperature range is 15- 20 celcius in winter to 20-30 celcius in summer. Humidity 50-70%. Is this suitable for growing tropical orchids without any special conditions?
