Rainforest plant wall??

Anyone knows how to make one, what materials are used to make the walls like this; only on a much smaller scale.

Most of the full size systems use special planters designed for vertical growing. Plenty of examples are avaialble if you google "Greenwall" or "green wall".

For smaller scale walls just for decorative purposes I have seen pictures using Epiweb/Ecoweb as the primary material.

they also use something very similar to epiweb if not epiweb for these systems also...and use a circulating water system to keep it watered and to do the filtering for the air

Green Walls have been "invented" by Patrick Blanc, a french botanist and "landscape architect" (not really sure whether he indeed has an architect tittle, but this is what better describes his green walls work). They are normally made with Geotextile, which is a polyester (I think also sometimes of propylene) fabric that resembles felt. The basics of the wall has been explained in the video above (but using rock wool). Main difference to EpiWeb is that it retains a lot of water, therefore can be tricky for many orchids to be adapted (just as Semi-hidro), but they can do it, and that it is A LOT cheaper! Imagine the price of this wall (Caixa Forum in Madrid) made with Epiweb (about 60€/sqm) and compare with Geotextile (about 5€/sqm):



Basically, Patric Blanc has made large walls, but now the small versions (sometimes just 40x40 cm or less) are getting quite trendy in Europe. The smallest ones do not use water pumps but work very well with the geotextile's capillarity properties.

I just remembered, "Akhenaten" in Russia did a sort of green wall in his terrarium made from a store display case. His thread is here-My Siberian Tropics

In short, I think he used a sheet of metal reinforcing wire (maybe something like rabbit guard?) and filled in behind it with orchid bark.

That is truly incredible....

and imagin how muc cooler that surface is compared to bare to the sun....living green surfaces dont heat up like concrete...
