Okay...so I was going to make this a construction log but it is HARD taking pics as you work without a helper so I scraped that idea and just built the thing. I started collecting mini orchids before I discovered the wonderful world of frogs so this tank was a way to make a home for a lot of the orchids I have as well as a home for frogs. I am getting a breeding group of 5 Amazonicus next week and will post pics then but in the mean time tell me what you think of the tank?? I want to get some sort of creeping plant to cover the background. Probably oak leaf creeping fig unless anyone else has a great idea. I also need to add the film canisters. The list of orchids inside the tank are as follows....
Beautiful set up! I am finding that a lot of orchid vivariums can be turned into mini eco systems with frogs and fish... I was just looking into it yesterday and am inspired to try and build one myself! Of course... I may have to get rid my couch and the TV to do so. ^^;;
Great job! Thank you for sharing~
Katie, your tank is absolutely beautiful! Looks so natural... I know I want to have one in future, and I'll definitely go back to look at your photos for inspiration. Great job!
Thanks everyone for your comments! This is about the 4th re-incarnation of this tank. Each time it got better. I think this time it is going to stick!
Mike: I've only had them for about a month and a half now but so far they have been really easy. You have to raise wingless fruit flys along with some other bugs which isnt that bad. I'm most excited for the prospect of tadpoles and raising babies! I did all my research on a forum called Dendroboard. It is a great resource!
Do you water all of those plants or have a mister/fogger of some sort? What about air flow? I have two of the same plants and am attempting to build a small (very small in comparison to yours) place for them.
Hi Kaity, kudos on the awesome looking tank! I have a few darts as well and have recently started to incorporate a few orchids into the tank. It just kinda made sense the two should go together. A few questions though...what is the background made of and is that manzanita wood in the throughout the tank? Thanks, Alex
How fascinating! I have an empty tank ( I think its as big as the tank in your picture) when my turtle died...I will transform it just like your tank...I am doing research on this...and I have 16 miniatures to put inside it(at the moment they are all hanging in my bathroom window getting algae from the humidity)
