Default question ??????misting

I just got back from a trip and thought that my misting system was set to care for my plants in my terrarium. As I gazed into my finished?? tank some of the plant looked really dry.
I have Marty's misting system (which works beautifully) I had it running before I left it was set to go on 4 times with a 10 sec. spray. Just before I left I put in two new fans. So I have 4 fans across from each other to make good air circulation.

How often do those of you who have a misting system for orchids in terrariums run your system?

I have 6 spray heads and 4 fans in a 55gal tank.

If it looks like they are getting dry then you should reduce the amount of time your fans are on. When I mist my tanks the fans are not on. I sprayheavily in the morning, only once, and then the fans are on a timer to turn on late at night. By the next morning everything is dry, ready for a new misting. If you want you can mist a few times in the early part of the day and then let the fans turn on at night so everything dries out by the next morning. You will have to experiment with the amount of time your fans will come on, and how many times you will mist. Every tank is different so experimentation is key. Currently I am not at my office this week to mist, so I cut back on the fans from 6 hours a night to 2. And I go to the office to mist every three days

Lets see if I understand. I should be misting more in the morning and turn off the fans at night. Should I go back to just having 2 fans in the tank?

Yes it does make it fun but when I start losing orchids I panic. Dang, it is hard when things don't go the way you think they should

Thanks Becky Jo

It's hard to get a misting system to completly replace waterings, you mention you went on a trip how many days were you away?
Do you normal only mist or suplement with waterings?

No, mist in the morning, turn the fans ON mostly at night.

I was gone for 10 days. I let the misting do most of the watering but I am usually at home and constantly checking out everything. My sister was here but it is hard to explain to someone what to watch for with orchids.

oopsie, I did it in the reverse with the fans. I will change it today.

Thanks Becky Jo
