Hello
long time listener first time caller
about a year ago I built my first vivarium out of a 20gallon high AGA tank, needless to say the results were not excellent, although it did somewhat work. the tank ran for a 5 months and then I tossed it, just didnt look good. so Ive been reading... and Ive got a plan.
I have some knowledge as Ive been keeping a pretty high tech 50 gallon planted aquarium for a few years now, pressurized co2, high light, etc.
so now Id like to build a vivarium from scratch and do it right.
I was thinking about buying an exo-terra but after taking a close look I was not thrilled with the aesthetics of the tanks.
so I'd like to have one made, most likely by a local glass store as there are many many glass stores by my apt
the tank:
the tank would be 30"H18"D30W built entirely of 1/4" glass, with two sliding doors on the front
I got the design from the article located here:
Constructing a Orchidarium - Step by Step (warning: multiple Illustrations) - The Orchid Source - Orchid Forum
and tweaked it. then I whipped up a little 3D model of it
bottom view hood
please see attached and let me know what your thoughts are, do you think it would work?, see any potential problems?
I have a few initial questions
will the tank support the hood properly?
I would like to have a some water area so that I can grow many aquatic plants in emersed forms (crypts). Im thinking around six inches of water with a false bottom in the back half, what issues does that create?
I also plan on trying my hand at many small orchids (my dad is a 75 year old orchid super freak)
tell me what you think?
thanks in advance
