does this species exist..? - Orchid Board

Hi there.
I'm looking for a species for my viv, but I'm quite picky when it comes to my design. I was hoping you could give me some suggestions, so bear with me as i plow through my long list of requirements:

-feels comfortable growing on a large horizontal cork slab
-enjoys warm to hot temps.
-doesn't need bright light
-needs no seasonal changes apart from a dry period which I could provide
-white/pink/red flowers
-small. after false bottom, I have about 15 inches of height left

I'm dreaming of a species with slim cane like growths. Something that would echo a sparse bush of bamboo in a japanese garden...

Dendrobium bracteosum might fit the ticket; gonzalesii if you want a gorgeous blue.

Just to be a little more precise, I have 4 x 30w T8's over my former fish tank. I estimate they would give around 1000-1200 footcandles. Do you think I would still be fit for a Dendrobium sp.?

Although bracteosum and gonzalesii grow to be large (tall) plants, you can get blooming size seedlings that are less than 10". Both bloom on leafless canes, hence, like 'a sparse bush of bamboo.' My gonzalesii is blooming well in an area that gets 800-900 fc natural light on a dark day. Plant fills a 6" teak basket; flowering canes are both upright and pendant.

I found gonzalesii seedlings for 7 dollars from a german orchidhouse where i'm intending to order some Aerangis.
I'll send them an e-mail and ask about the size but for that price i might just give it a shot no matter how small. any special growing tips i should know about? Thank you for all your help and advice. Antti

Both gonzalesii and bracteosum are in teak baskets with lava rock (to support roots). They get THOROUGHLY drenched once a week to every 10 days and like to dry out between waterings. The greenhouse has a jay-bird fogger going all the time; when these dendrobinae are in bloom, they get a little extra humidity - their baskets are 'perched' over a bird-bath in the greenhouse.
I got these plants from KawamotoOrchids.com. I'm interested in adding more aerangis to my collection. Can you refer me to your contact in Germany?

Both will charge you about 75-80 dollars for CITES cert. plus shipping, but then again I don't know how dedicated you are...
Unfortunately the one with 7 Aerangis species ships within EU only. Let me know if I can be of any help.
