Greenhouse indoors?

Hi. I was thinking about setting up a greenhouse indoors under lights. I don't have a garden, so I have to be creative And I have to many orchids for my windows.

My thought was to put this greenhouse in my apartment.
It is a wall-greenhouse. Put up lightning and a fan inside.
Here in Norway the humidity is low for orchids, so it will be easy to control in a greenhouse indoors.

Do you have any thoughts about this?

I think it will be one hell of a terrarium

If you're planning a lean-to type greenhouse, one wall will be an apartment wall. What material is that apartment wall? You might need to consider what excessive humidity will do to that wall, depending upon the material used for construction in your apartment. You may also need to determine how to vent to the outdoors, as the lights will produce a lot of heat.

Other than that, I think this is a cool idea if you have the space for it! I would never have thought about putting an entire greenhouse indoors!

The wall is concrete, so it can take humidity. But if you look at the greenhouse on the top you will se that the backwall is made of polycarbonat, so it's actually sealed. No harm to the wall in other words. I think I will use silicone inside the greenhouse just to be on the safe side

Aboute ventilation. There is a hatch on the top. I think it would be a good place to set up a reversed fan. Just to get a flow in the aircirculation. And maybe I can get up the humidity in my apartment in the same time

just a thought tho concrete absorbs moister and also retains it....if you like the smell of wet concrete ..you're apartment will smell like a wet basement...
might think about putting up a plastic barrier on the back wall.That will hold the moister in better and keep it off the concrete..

The concrete is old, and made of a tighter formula than modern concrete. But the moist will not be a problem anyway. The backwall in the greenhouse is made of polycarbonat.

I think your idea of a reverse fan might indeed work well to reduce overheating and increase ventilation in the greenhouse as well as to bring up the humidity in your apartment. Are you thinking of using silicone sealant inside the greenhouse to seal cracks, or silicone in some other form & way?

What a fantastic idea!! I could put something like this in my kitty room. I could get more orchids, control things better and KEEP THE CATS OUT OF MY ORCHIDS! Good luck with this and make sure to post pictures if you decide to do it!

I know when I come home and see green-tainted throw-up on the floor--Ozzie, our Siamese, has been at one of my plants! He picks on different ones at different times . . . wish I had the room to do this myself!
