Hi, I thought maybe I could chime in a little. This is how the folks who take care of salamanders (the Masdevallias of the amphibian world) keep their animals cold.
However, I'm not sure how we can really implement some of the methods to our uses. The most common one they suggest is to use an aquarium chiller, which pretty much cools the water in an aquarium. So if you don't have any running water in your terrarium this is absolutely no help what so ever. If you do have a naturalistic type setup with a pond, running water, or if its a paludarium you are making, then cold water in your tank will surely affect the ambient temperature of the terrarium as well. By how much, not really too sure.
So here is link from Caudata.org that is an info sheet on how they cool their tanks down, because keeping some salamanders at temps below 70 is an absolute to keeping them alive, healthy or to be able to breed them.
Hope it helps.

Default more links on cooling

I read this guys thread again and found this link that I missed. I have been looking into Peltiers and using ice, but this seems to be the best idea I have come across yet for a cool terrarium. Carnivorous Plants in the tropics - update new terrarium+ new plants I think I will be getting an electrician to rework a fridge for me once I get my cool wardian case made

I will just use an old fridge I think.. Just get an electrician to pull it apart and use the parts. I think it will be important to make sure it is strong enough to cool the area of the wardian case. So I would go for a fridge with similar volume maybe? I guess though it wont have to cool as far as a fridge would though, so it would not have to work as hard... lots to think about.

Hey Uechi

I hope this is of some help to you. Have you figured out how you will chill your Masdevallia wardian case? I'd like to know what you do.

Maybe it would be good to make a thread like this and make it sticky as cooling a wardian case is a question that comes up often.

I don't know if this whole chilling issue has been resolved so I just thought i would put my in. You could make some sort of mini swamp cooler and utilize evaporative cooling . .. there was a thread on this site about it somewhere . .. i remember reading it when i was supposed to be doing school work . . . . or one of the previous links could have been to that thread . . . I didn't actually looka t all of them
