Placement of Misting Nozzles

I have a question for anyone with a misting system in their Terrarium or Orchidarium. I recently purchased a single nozzle misting sytem but need direction as to where is the best place to hang the nozzle. With the fan running the mist does not get to the back of the Orchidarium. Is it important for the mist to get to all the orchids or is it just to keep the humidity up?

I wouldn't recommend trying to keep your plants watered with a mist system unless you have exclusively mounted orchids. Just let the fan blow the mist around the tank and use the mist to produce higher humidity.

I agree with Ross, if it is just for humidity, it shouldn't need to reach the back of the orchidarium.

Thanks Ross and Becca that's what I thought. Its working very well and its nice not having to hand mist every other hour or so. Becca was it you that dunks the mounted orchids to water them? That's what I do. Is that wrong. Spraying them doesn't seem to moisten the moss very well. So much to learn oh but its fun

Everything is growing well in or out of the Orchidarium. Had to take all the Phals out so the moisture would not build up in the crown. All the rescue Phals are growing and adding leafs and flower spikes.

Hi Sheridan! I use to dunk, but I started having problems with fungus growing on some of the mounts, mostly one particular kind of wood that Andy's Orchids uses for mounts, I think maybe I need more air
circulation, and also some of the orchids mounted on cork that had sphagnum moss on them, the moss started getting all yucky looking, plus I think I was dunking them for way to long at a time, like 30 minutes daily sometimes. I bought a half gallon pump mister sold at home depot or other places like that.....it is sooo much better then the hand sprayers, I think you will find it would be adequate with getting your moss moist enough. On another note, your 'chids that are in semi-hydro are looking great in the pictures!

I always dunk (soak) the mounts upstairs (non Orchidarium) but the ones downstairs (orchidarium) get soaked via a hand sprayer. I got a batch of Shore Flies started downstairs in orchidarium from one of the plants and now I no longer submerge them. The upstairs guys are pretty dry most of the time and don't have bugs.

Hi Becca I am amazed how well the orchids are doing in the s/h medium and the orchids in the Orchidarium are going bonkers.

From now on I will just hand mist the mounted 'chids' instead of dunking them.
