Hello! I'd been having issues with my orchidarium having lower humidity than I wanted. Using the
misting system to do 10 second bursts wasn't working because it was making it cold, and I think my plants didn't like being sprayed that much. So decided to add a water feature.
The design is basically a Great Stuff background with tubing in the back. It has it's own reservoir because there isn't usually more than a quarter inch of water in the leca I have in the bottom of my setup, and I wanted the water in a controlled area. Also, I have a hole for my new mister. In the earlier pictures, I used dried sheet moss to cover the mister and the bottom, but in the later pictures switched to live java moss that runs wild in an aquarium I have. I also have an aquarium heater in the reservoir because I was having trouble keeping things warm enough, but have since increased temperatures so haven't been using it. It's easy to access the pump and reservoir, and if I have problems with it, it's easy to remove completely. I had a stronger pump, and it was visually more interesting, but it was way too loud. I literally cannot hear the current pump, and there is a trickle of water over most of the wood at all times. The humidity runs around 80% now. Anyway, it makes me happy, so I thought I'd share.
