I am looking for a little help with a glass lid design for a 24x18x24 “ exoterra terrarium that I am in the process of constructing. As some of you may know there are some irregularities to the lid recess due to the door hinges on the exoterra terrariums near the front left and right corners (image attached). I am in addition going to have a 80mm fan mounted as an exhaust fan in the back right corner and 3 holes drilled for the mist king nozzles. I sent the following design (image attached) to a few glass shops around and they all wanted ~$300 to make this (much of the cost from the corner notches). Any one else have thoughts regarding a better design for a glass lid that may be less costly for a glass shop to make?
Make the top out of two pieces instead of one - the back one 4-3/8”, the front one 12+”.
Cut the front corners at 45-degree angles to clear the corner obstruction and provide the openings for two Mist-King nozzles. You can us doubles on each corner to provide complete coverage.
Do the same for the left, rear corner of a second piece for the back. That piece can be shorter than the full width to leave a gap for the fan.
Or...consider using a piece of acrylic or polycarbonate instead, and do your own cutting.
