i was thinking about this thread last night and i think that you will be fine with the flex seal...if you have issues then the next step would be a vapor barrier inside of the flexseal, like a thick visqueen, the only thing about that that is tricky is laying the sides onto the bottom, you want to make like a cuff so the water runs down the side and INTO the bottom, not under it. again, i think the spray rubber will work well for the preservation of the wooden structure

thanks dirty coconuts. side question: How long do restrepia blooms last? mine that opened just 72 hours ago is already closed!

i am afraid i don't know..i don't have that plant or any rep. plants (yet :evil)

i know that a lot of the mini ones i have they bloom a lot and often but the individual flowers don't linger more than a day or so...i always chalked it up to the elevated humidity
