I am looking at hanging some orchids in a bare bones utilitarian terrarium (actually an aquarium on its side with glass doors). What are the different methods that some people use to hang them? I will likely be hanging some small potted Masdevallia.
I am at a bit of a loss as to what methods would work well.
I grow in a fridge and take one or two epoxy-coated neodymium magnets (size of a cheetio, circular and flat) and either glue it on the back of mounts, stick it to the existing hook if the mount came with a hook, and even inside lip of plastic pots (net pots and regular.) Then I just slap it on the walls. If something is heavier or has a larger pot than than normal just add more magnets,
I also mount my fans that way. They are like 20 for $25 bucks on Ebay. They are very strong, and chip easily, so get more than you think you will need. If they chip or the epoxy is scratched (it's a pretty thin coating) off they will rust. I dont know if its harmful or not, so I only use un-damaged ones. And throw any broken ones away.
I should probably mention that none of my pots I use magnets for are larger than a small apple. But even "heavy" 3" pots full of sand and peat stick.
I was going to say you should look at two part epoxy for making “holes” and what I would use would be 1/4” ID stainless steel nuts to receive any type of hook or hanger.
So just epoxy the nutt into a small mound of epoxy and then purge the middle with a straw and let it cure. Then you can hang whatever you want from the holes

Rooted in South Florida....
I have two mini Phaleonopsis that I want to mount in a 10x20 aquarium. The size will be 9.75 wide and 19.5 tall. I have the bottom sectioned off at 7.5 inch tall for other plants. I was going to test African violets in the soil set up. The lights are LED. I will be adding a hinge between the 7.5 and 9 inch top piece. Will leaving an est. 2.5 inches open at the top cause a problem? It will have a 5 inch fan hang or sitting in there some where. I hope to make it look like a forest setup. I am used 100% silicon to attach the bottom piece. I am looking for advice on what to use to attach the plants to the back wall. Wood mounts, baskets or use foam and crave out spots to put orchids?
i have been updating the vertical terrarium (10 gal fish tank) for the orchids. They both seem happy to have 1 root in water for now. I just got a 1/8 inch thick piece of plexiglass cut in three sections the bottom 3.75 inches for soil for other plants or to set pots in. A 1.5 inch top piece for part of hinge and the other 14.5 as the main door. I am going to see if African violets will work in the set up. There will still be the 2 inch computer fan to move the air around.
I think the easiest and most common thing I've seen people do is to affix egg crate to the sides of a tank, and just hang the mounts on there. Here's an example I found from a quick googling:
This is pretty handy because most "mini" orchids you'll buy will come mounted with a hook; this way you can easily hang them on the egg crate.
OH and a some people will drill the tops to add misting nozzles for automatic watering.
