Raffle Table Plants
Seems I always come home with a plant off the raffle table from my local orchid club. Just wondering what other experiences others had with their club raffle tables. Any real winner plants or complete duds?

It probably depends on your society and where they get their plants from! I can't really say it's terrible to get any orchid for the typical price of a raffle ticket, even if it isn't going to win an FCC next year!

Raffle Table Plants
Our OS has both a regular raffle table and a silent auction. I have won plants from both. It is just as Discus says: Depends where they come from. And, participating is optional after all, so, if in doubt, don't participate. (But it is fun to win).
Make the acquaintance of the people who run the raffle, they might appreciate your input.

One of our large grocery stores gives our society the orchids (mostly Phals but sometimes Cyms or others) that are past their prime and unsaleable. So we always have a lot and the chances are good to win something. Then you get to pick from what is there. I am currently just getting to see some of the Phals I won a year ago that weren't in bloom. So far they are all pleasant surprises!

We always purchase orchids from our speaker that night for our raffle table. We have two meeting a year when its members sales night, held like an auction.. Our raffle table is outstanding orchids and the vendor usually includes a little blurr on each one on the table which is an extras bonus.

We have a sale table for members. The price is determined by the seller. Sometimes the plants are free for the taking (usually divisions). I've gotten a number of my orchids that way, and have sold a few, too usually ones that did not like my conditions or were too big for my growing space.

we always have great plants being raffled off for a drawing. Is whats pretty sad looking are the plants people bring in for silent auction. escuse me ugh, they got tired of looking at it and figured someone else could look at it for awhile. they scare me with the condition some of these are in. havent seen any bugs yet but sad looking plants I dont have any passion for at all. orchids with great flowers and beat up crappy foliage make me churn.

We also have a member sale table where the member determines the price. The raffle table is for freebies we get donated to us from a local grocery store after they are past prime. The raffle pays our society's rent most of the time.
