this is a balancing act plant.
first, oak is safe but, as said that is not necessarily the best plan depending on the environment and your cultural habits.
I have this one mounted on a piece of scrap pine 1x2 upside down, i water it daily-ish.
While i am not intimately familiar with all of Canada, i do recall that none of it is sub tropical so, you have to find another approach. I think ray's suggestion is great. If you search for "wet mount" you'll find some stuff i made for a bulbo recently that might also suit this, grown upside down.
the basket or raft with a wet medium is also good, sphag, coir or even rockwool in some combination. use coir or hygrolon to wrap the roots onto the wood and hold in a pocket of sphag or rockwool.
