I’m sorry to dredge up an old (sorta?) post, but did you buy this one from Louisiana Orchid Connection (John or Tin)? I’ve been on the lookout for one of these for two years now, and I’ve been unsuccessful. Yours looks really happy, great job with it! I think I'd panic if I had a Phalaenopsis that decided to turn deciduous on me!
Thank you for sharing the pics of yours, the little blooms are so cute!

Supposed to be a cool grower.
In my experience with other Chinese "deciduous" phals, winter leaf loss is dependent upon watering. Withhold it, as was done in this case, and away they go. Water it regularly, while keeping them cool, and the leaves will be retained.

This is really cool... I was also wondering if you got it from the LA Orchid Connection. What's the conservation status of this orchid, by the way?

In my overly-obsessive late-night/early morning research, my findings:

I am emailing John from LOC as we speak, and I have also asked Peter Lin at Big Leaf Orchids if he has/knows who may have any as well. I’ll let you all know if I find anything worthwhile. I have also been talking to a nursery in China who has a couple of flasks, but he seems to sort of ignore my multiple gentle questions about a PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATE, as well as CITES paperwork. However, I’m thinking I only need one of these two, since they’re shipping in sterile flasks, which makes the USDA/APHIS treat them in a similar way to how small batches of seeds would be, but I may be in error as far as that. ***
This species (Phalaenopsis zhejiangensis/Nothodoritis zhejiangensis) is listed in CITES schedule II, so we can get them as long as they’re specifically cultivated and sold, rather than “wild collected,” which is illegal and unethical.
If I do obtain a flask, or I can find a source, I’m planning to buy whatever I can, as long as it’s not some absurdly high price, and I’ll definitely share! I read on a French-language forum that they were sold at Powow [sic, most likely on my part] Orchids several years ago, and were 50€, and I would definitely buy the store out if they were that price, because I’ve been trying to collect as many Phalaenopsis species as I’m able.
*** Disclosure/Disclaimer: I apologize for my constant confused-sounding posts. I had a near-fatal car accident in 2015, and nearly all of my injuries were to my head. Sort of TMI as well as OT, I know, but I want to offer an explanation for my constant lack of brevity.

I took a look at Popow Orchids. He has a whole bunch of miniature Phalaenopsis species (I spotted 3 on the first page, there are 8 Phalanopsis screens so I am sure there are many more). He ships on this side of the pond when he comes to the US for shows (I think he comes to the Redland show in May, don't know what other shows he might be attending) You can email him about his schedule, and inquire about flasks too - you may have to wait awhile, until he comes to the US, but his plants are well worth it! And since he puts the ordered plants in with what he plans to sell at the shows, he takes care of all the import paperwork at one time and the customers don't have to deal with it. Then it's just ordinary USPS Priority shipping.

I am going to start this with a disclaimer, that is, I already regret offering this because of the possibilities for problems but.....
I will be at that show, for sure, and disclaiming anything about the condition of the plant when it arrives, I would happily ship it to you if it would complete the equation
Reluctantly, happily
I am only kidding about the reluctance...as long as you know what you are getting it is very easy to pack up a single plant.

A few of these might go home with YOU...
International shipping of plants has all sorts of pitfalls, but shipping plants within the US is simple and routine.
The beauty of pre-ordering from international vendors who will be at shows... you can easily do a pickup. But it's also something that they do all the time... bring in both their sale plants for the show, and any pre-orders. They get everything through customs, then they can easily pack up the individual orders and ship within the US for people who won't be at the show - advantage of that is that the plants are still the responsibility of the vendor if there are any issues.

Yay!! I am pretty sure I have a biological need for this species.

I'm so glad you're okay! Also you don't sound like you're rambling - you sound perfectly fine.

PS: my parents might be a bit freaked out if I receive an orchid by post from someone over the internet and then provide the mailing costs... is there a way to "sell" this over ebay or some other way so it looks more "reputable?" I hope I don't seem dismissive to anyone...

Just let me know. I’ll be going to the show for sure.
