Phal. Tetraspis Budblast
Default Phal. Tetraspis Budblast

Hello!

I purchased a Phal. Tetraspis in November from Schwerter Orchideenzucht and it came with a flower spike with some buds on it. As it was shipped from Germany and from the stress from transportation they blasted (normal, I know).

After 2 months of resting, the plant extended the spike and formed 3-4 new buds. Some days ago I noticed one of the buds starting to yellow and now it blasted.

I am scared I will loose the buds again. What is wrong? I keep it moist, on an east window so it receives filtered direct light until noon. The temperature is around 25 degrees C and the humidity around 50-60%. Before the bud started yellowing it was a really warm, sunny day and this might have caused the issue. I moved it to shadier place now.

I read that Tetraspis is prone to bud blast but is it true? As I know a lot of growers with less than perfect conditions and they manage to flower the plant. Or just Schwerter sold me a glitchy plant?

Please I take any advice and I would really love to know the culture of the tetraspis, especially since I am waiting for C#1 to arrive soon.

I haven't experienced bud blast on my tetraspis, so can't say they are especially susceptible, it too is in an easterly window. I think your temperatures are ideal for it mine is kept at a maximum of 20C and does just fine. I think it might be that the sun is getting stronger and with it still quite low in the sky could have caused the bud blast - it may have also dried out a bit quicker with more sun on it. Since you have moved it I think you will have solved the problem.
