According to this weather station data for Nago it can go down to mid 40s F in Jan/Feb.

But its natural habitat extends far north, it's also found in North Korea and Sapporo, where it even snows. That is why its re-classification into phalaenopsis was confusing, as no phal would ever withstand these conditions.

I'm not starting a flame war, I also don't want people taking away incorrect data. The climate data from Hortus states, "temperatures are calculated for an altitude of 1000 m / 3300 ft". There is no place on Okinawa Island with an elevation of 1000m.

I'll leave everyone to do their own due diligence. I'm done.

Sorry for bringing this back up, but I think there was some confusion on the natural range of the orchid. The graphic only shows that it occurs somewhere in Japan, not in the whole country. It is definetly not native in Sapporo or anywhere in Hokkaido for that matter.

But, does anybody know in which japanese prefectures this orchid grows? Maybe somebody could give me a hint to a document or something? I have been searching for a while but never found any

I may be wrong, but I think that their range is sub tropical Japan, so mostly the Ryukyu Islands. So not on the mainland Japan, where you can find Neofinetia however.
