3 Violacea's

a coerulea , an alba and a red Violacea.

the pesky spidermites have had a go at them but they still flowered.

I've got to say that alba is very pretty, I'm never sure about coerula, they always look a bit washed out - do you have any of the deep blue variants?

What did you use on the spider mite? I have a couple of Catasetum that I'm using RoseClear on - it seems to be doing the trick.

I don't have any deep blue ones though i might buy one when I've sorted out my plants, they do tend to be pricey though.


I've used ivermectin and also the cheapo pest and spidermite killer from poundland.

ive been a bit more persitant this time and sprayed the plants at regular intervals as nothing seems to kill the eggs so regular spraying is the only way.

I will get a bare-root one shipped to me in one month from Thailand! What's the growing condition you would recommend? Like potting mix, light, humidity, temperature, watering frequency? I will grow them under light as well.

well they will grow well in bark or sphagnum moss.

it really depends on your growing conditions.

bark can be a bit of a chore if you have hot and dry conditions a lot and find watering a chore.

they like high light for a phal and also lots of warmth.

minimum 65f in winter but its better to keep them warmer.


they should be fine with 40 or 50% humidity although the flowers wont last as long.

water when the medium is nearly dry but not bone dry.

you could stick a bamboo skewer in the pot to check.

i'll try to think of some other tips but mostly its keeping them warm as they're hot grower's imho.
