speciosa or tetraspis
Default speciosa or tetraspis

I have both speciosa and tetraspis, or at least that's what they were bought as. Both have now bloomed, I can't tell the difference, maybe they are the same species in which case which one is it?

Both, had the same fragrance, a sort of burnt plastic, not entirely pleasant smell.

First pic is "speciosa" second is "tetraspis"

Some say that the two species are the same, while others say the two are closely related. As a rule, plants of speciosa seem to have more rounding to the petals and sepals than tetraspis.

Looking at the pics, then having more rounded petals fits the speciosa I'D.

There has been quite a debate around tetraspis and speciosa. I personnaly think they are the same species.

I think Phal tetraspis is supposed to be named Phal speciosa now. I grow a few speciosa, and last time I spoke with my resource from Taiwan I was told that the proper name for Phal tetraspis C#1 is actually P speciosa var. christiana.

One thing is for sure, if they aren't the same, they re closely related!

It is a plant that is on the minds of a lot of taxonomists.
