I can't exactly describe why, but I feel offended by dyed Phals.

I feel sorry for them, too. The vast majority will probably just be discarded when the blooms fall off.

Yeah, I find them to be repulsive as well, but to each their own. I suppose they wouldn't continue doing this year after year if it weren't bringing in a nice profit -- presumably "normies" love it.

Recently, I saw a potted plant arrangement that included both a blue dyed phal AND a blue spray painted Euphorbia trigona mixed in with assorted tropical foliage plants. I suppose the nurseries are currently in an arms race to one up each other.

I don't feel strongly about the dyed flowers. The dye job is not my cup of tea, but they usually re-bloom as nice large-ish white Phals.

When they are marketed, they should be tagged to indicate that they are dyed (I know some people do expect them to remain blue, orange, bright green, etc.)

Logically I can never explain my reaction to these but my feeling is WRONG WRONG WRONG. I have no problem with dyed cutflowers, but this is more like colorizing a classic black and white film, or putting clothes on Michelangelo's statue of David, or painting a white tiger fluorescent green. Why make something beautiful ugly? How can anyone have such poor taste they want to buy them?

I do not really think they are all that bad when they dyed natural colors and, as blue is the favorite color for many people, I have bought them as gifts. I have read that there is an attempt to truly create a blue Phal with genetic engineering. Some naturally blue flowers are so pretty that I hope it will happen soon.
