My wife received a dyed blue one from the grandkids last year (made me want to gag but she loved it as grandmothers are wont to do). It actually isn't a bad white with nice red lip now that it's rebloomed this year. I might be even nicer that my other white/red lipped Phal. that I've had for years and had bought un-dyed.

It doesn't evoque any special feelings to me, good or bad... I just don't buy them.

OK, I don't like them but someone must. I'm happy to hear that these plants can survive and re-bloom.
I also didn't like the Chihuly exhibit that came to the Desert Botanical Garden (Phoenix)--all that bizarre glass stuff was really distracting from the natural form, color and beauty of the desert plants.
Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should!

I was at the DBG recently. At the entrance are some tall Chihuly glass sculptures with lots of long, spiky yellowish-green parts. A visitor from the Midwest asked me what kind of cactus it was. I told him it was a glass sculpture.

Most of the lucky bamboo I've seen isn't even real bamboo. It's Dracaena.

Some might say the artistic statement was in the juxtaposition of the man-made and natural forms. But I can see that Chihuly's work could be jarring in that setting. Nestled among tropical foliage and flowers or in a lush manicured garden would be more effective.

Out of curiosity, I bought one of these once. 3 years later, it is a great bloomer, very thick leaves, nice. Here is a picture of my formerly blue-dyed phal.

A lot of people did like the Chihuly exhibits at the Desert Botanical Garden. Attendance during both of them was far higher than other times.
