Congratulations John. That is beautiful. It's warming up too fast in Texas. I am seeing some activities on an older mounted Phalaenopsis corningiana 'Carol' HCC/AOS. It put out quite a display last year.

Because I grow in moss - I fertilize weakly and infrequently.

Thank you, Peter. The plant came from you (though I think the fragrance is much more pleasant than "bubble-gum"), and it's by far the nicest of this species I've had.

It's labeled as Phal. corningiana sp-3cy.

Indeed a beautiful flower. Love the red overlay, solid at the tips. Is this a clone or from a seedling batch?

Leslie, this is a seedling.

These are grown in moss. species are more sensitive to temperature and roots staying wet in cool weather will quickly lead to their demise.

I don't water the moss completely in the winter. I would lightly wet the top layer of moss only, or dispense a small amount (1/2 cup of water). Lightly water with warm temperature will encourage new root growth.

If I need to water the plant heavily, I use heat mat that is set to 70-75F to help root zone stay warm.

Finally I fertilize very little. Moss holds nutrient better than open mix like bark.

Thanks Peter.

Did the cross turn out flowers similar to this one?
