I've had this Equestris for awhile and adore the sweet little blooms. The other is a noid from Ikea, yesterdays purchase.

Both are beautiful!
The Equestris seems to be very healthy. The noid is also great. I assume you've been growing them in general phal conditions or do you have some special care?

I got several species Phals from Hauserman's a few months ago. Since I have been fighting scale in my greenhouse window (Charles06 hear that?) forever, (every time I think it's licked, I find a few) I have them separated on the lower shelf in an east/south window combination. They have about 60% humidity and I water when the pots feel light, which is how I care for all the Phals. I am anxious for the rest to bloom!

You made the right decision. And always quarantine your new plants. My scale didn't show up till late. By the time I noticed it all were infected. I. My defense, I was working on my MA at the time.

I had scale show up more than 6 months after receiving some tiny seedlings I suspect were guilty. I suspect those tiny seedlings because they never grew as they should have, and it appeared on them first, just before appeaing on nearby plants. I lost quite a few tiny Cattleya and tiny Vanda seedlings before controlling it... I think.

It was warm, so I sprayed with isopropyl alcohol, then used the immersion method. Scale reappeared on some. I don't know whether this was reinfestation or failure to kill with the first treatment.

I wrote the vendor, saying I couldn't know whose plants brought me the scale, but suggesting they check their plants carefully. I got no response.

Scale is easily fought with a systemic. It can take some time for the systemic to start working but it is effective. A couple of years ago, my Cinnamon and Manikara zapota trees were covered with scale and I used the granular systemic...they are both still clear today (I don't like using it on my fruit/spice trees but I'd rather not lose the tree).

Isopropyl alcohol works well for small infestations. I put it in a spray bottle and spray the plant well (It is wise to cover the roots, though, to protect them). The alcohol needs to be done often and it can take some time to clear a plant.

Both of your orchids are very nice! Congratulations on both the old and the new one!

Iv'e read that amber listetine works too. I have granular sytemic here but, I can't believe it works with bark? It is death on scale. I did switch to Bayer Rose sprsy as someone suggested. Now When I water, I check all the leaves for the immature scale. Then spray with insecticidal soap.
Thanks for tbe compliments, I can't take credit.

Well, it is a Phal and Hauserman's still has them! I lost my pink one last year and when I reordered, the one they sent was in spike (bonus!). Thank you, it is a cheery little thing.
