Streaks in my phal violacea
I ordered this violacea red x sib a month ago. It arrived in bud, and it opened up for me a few days ago. This is its first flower. I was a little disappointed that it was not the magenta color I was expecting, but I understand that could be a factor of the warmth in my growing area.
I am not liking those irregular streaks of purple, though. What could be causing those? Virus, stress, genetics...?

I wouldn't worry if its a first flowering, I would think the form and colour will improve as it flowers more.

Being that it was shipped in bud, it could be stress or damage. But it also looks like colour streak found when they are virused. I would send a photo to the growers just for the record and see what they say. Or have it tested.

i thought it might have been creases in the flower and the angle it was photographed but your right it could be caused by a virus.
probably best to keep it away from the other plants until you have figured it out just in case.

I really hope it's not virus. I rather think it's lovely. I like the blue color.

I agree with everyone. It could be one of two things or both: stress or virus. Keep away from other plants until tested or the next flower opens. But flower colour is actually not bad as its considered almost indigo type. I would keep and reassess on the next flower to appear.

Thanks, guys. I wanted to give you an update. I'm not able to afford virus strips right now, but I showed the vendor my orchid, and they tested five orchids from the same batch. All of them were negative for viruses. I was impressed that they were willing to go to that effort to check up on my concern. Of course, I'll follow your advice and keep the plant separated until I can test it myself, but this did help set my mind at ease.
