I picked up this lovely little plant in late April in low spike. She opened up her first bloom. Now I just want to be certain on the id. Most of the pics I've seen show lobbii as white and brown, mine is a beautiful bright yellow. I just want to keep all my notes straight as I work on my phal species collection. Thanks everyone
Nice bloom. I looked in OrchidWiz. Most of them are a more brownish lip and slightly more narrow. But the photos of f. flava and f. alba look more like yours and seem to have the wider lip as well. Did yours come with any distinction as being an alba or flava variety?
There is nothing marking any kind of distinction, however the person I bought from had it marked as being in their collection for quiet awhile. I was thinking it may be one if the variants. The yellow is quiet bright, the bloom has been open for 4-5 days now, the inflourecence is continuing to grow and new blooms forming. This does appear to be a first spike, I can see any remains of another spike
A few years ago I was nuts for all the Phals in this group (Parishianae). This one is P. lobbii var. flavilabia.
Check out this link. Phalaenopsis lobbii
