Questioning an ID - Orchid Board

Hi everyone!

I just ordered a phal borneensis that is in spike. However when I picked up the plant it does not have the flat spike structure that I have always seen with this species. Right now the spike is 5"-6" and is looking just as round as any of my hybrids. I'm including a picture and looking for some opinions.

Will the spike flatten at the end as it grows and blooms, or do you think it was miss marked?

Either way we will have answers in a while when she starts actually blooming

That would be agonizing to find out it was not the plant you thought it was. I looked at a lot of photos on google and a lot show that it comes out round and then grows for a ways and then starts becoming flat. Others seem to become flat sooner. I'm not an expert, of course, just an observer.

That is my exact concern. I've been building a collection of Phal species. It's not as though this is a difficult species to find. My concern is its current growing habit. I'm hoping others will chime

Well brought in pics of this guy and talked to some AOS judges and phal growers at my local club show today. Everyone agrees that this is not the orchid it was sold as

Now it's time for the waiting game on the blooms, and then attempting an ID. Still hoping it's a species *fingers crossed*

I'm not familiar with borneensis, but I have a Phal. fasciata that has spikes that start out round and flatten as the spike elongates. You may be okay after all!
