Default Mystery colour cornu-cervi has new buds

Picked up this plant in a buying frenzy at the nursery with my orchid-loving, but serial orchid-killing sister. She snagged the darkest, prettiest cornu-cervi specimen (without even knowing what it was) and the owner, seeing my disappointment (because it WAS on my wish list) and trying to ward off a knock-down, drag-out sisterly fight , hastily found this one with a shrivelled flower in the media. "Look." she said soothingly, "This one has TWO spikes! And the flower appears dark."

So, fingers crossed! Can't wait to see it in bloom. And is that three, count 'em!, THREE! buds I see growing?

My sister would not notice a plant switch when she's not at home.

I love your evil plan! I suspect she's already killed it though. She was talking about losing another one and I couldn't bear to hear which one it was.

I did (jokingly [I think]) pretend to sneak her plant into my cardboard box when I was loading the plants in my car at the nursery, but she caught me. Dang it!

What nursery was this from? Is it in the lower mainland? I might have to go check it out

Nice purchase! These can bloom for months producing one flower after another non-stop.
I had my cornu-cervi red constantly in bloom for a year on multiple spikes. Now it is resting to start again soon.

That is quite the evil smile there, Rebecca! EEK! You've got me worried.

Now don't forget to PM me if you find something really special there and there's enough for me too…

Default Bud Watch 2016

Ohhhhhh, trying not to count my buds before they open, but it's looking dark to me. I swear this is the slowest opening bud of all time. It's torture waiting for my surprise.

Also, although the plant seems to be surviving her care, the spike on my sister's cornu-cervi has turned yellow. Argh! I knew I should have wrestled her for it.

What would cause this? Overwatering?

This gave me a chuckle. Or could it be under watering. I am not sure. But I wish your bud would open soon.
