In my observation, my lowii and wilsonii grow best when humidity is high in conjunction with good airflow. I give mine low-mid range Cattleya light. I water them daily most of the time, sometimes two days a part depending on the temperature. But I do not give them a dry, winter rest, but just less water during colder months to avoid rot.

Lowii should be grown between 50-80 F. Wilsonii can take 40s no problem, but just be careful to not water at night. I think wilsonii should be grown in colder temps during winter months as it has a tendency to deteriorate over time if grown too warm all the time. In its natural habitat, the winter temp can go into the freezing range.

my lowii is still holding onto it's 3 leaves.

Forgot to add, during warmer months, I water in the evening so that the plants have ample time to absorb water.
