Phalaenopsis tetraspis #C1 first bloom
First bloom from my little phal tetraspis C1. It has been putting out spikes non stop since I got it from the orchid show last year and now has 6 spikes and forms buds but they always blasted before they even hardly grew. I was very excited to see this bud start growing and plump up. This flower opened yesterday and is a bit wonky looking but it looks like it is ready to bloom as I now see 3 more decent sized buds that have made it past the usual size.
A little disappointed that it is such a deep burgundy colour instead of the bright red I had hoped for but is still very pretty. And it has a odd mango/tree bark fragrance that I rather enjoy.
Please excuse the quality of the picture as my phone is horrid, when I have time I plan to whip out my big boy camera and take some glamour shots ;p

OooO! One of my favorite species. Hopefully successive blooms will show improvement in color and shape. All my speciosa's, the sister species, been doing is putting out new leaves. 2 large ones in the last two months or so... I have no clue how to get it to spike!

No-pro-ma, I was able to grow and bloom this one on a Boston windowsill, so I think you'd be able to manage. I only just recently killed it with too much sun as the light changed in my LA grow room.

I may have to try one some day. I do grow equestris and I just killed my mannii that I have had since 2005 and I do believe it had to do with perhaps some cold water. Not sure but I need to be more careful with these warm growers.

Wow!! I am only just now discovering phalaenopsis species, after years of collecting hybrids. I absolutely love the asymmetrical color of this one! Does this one have a fragrance?
Great job! Hope the color improves for you, but it's stunning just how it is!

It indeed has a slight fragrance, you have to get fairly close to smell it but its almost mango and astringent smelling. I find that many fragrant flowers are subtle when grown under lights though.
There are quite a few buds developing now and I can see many of them are showing colour in the buds already, and some look like they will be the opposite of this flower being mostly red with a white petal which I am very excited about!
Noticed today as well that my Phal. stuartiana var. punctatissima, is starting to bud out which will be a first rebloom for me as well. I acquired it at the same time as my tetraspis. Now just to get my hands on a Phal. schilleriana. I feel if you have a stuartiana you need a schilleriana they are the perfect complimentary couple.
