Neat looking bud Phal. heirogliphica!
I meant to post this in the Species Phal folder-cant figure out how to deleat or move it-HELP! I just wanted to share my excitement about the bud on the pha. heirogliphica that I purchased in august out of bloom. It has 3 spikes, but was done flowering and the grower said it prob. wouldn't bloom untill next summer, so I was really thrilled that one of the spikes has developed a bud.
What I find really neat is that the markings on the inside petals are visible on the bud from the outside
This is my favorite phal. species, and I have always wanted one, I don't recall ever seeing one in real life. I didnt think I would ever have the chance to buy one except from online or traveling to a multi grower sale, both of which aren't really options for me. What a nice surprise when I went to my usual grower to buy a birthday orchid for myself! Not sure who much longer it will take to open, but I will be very excited to post pictures.

I would be SO EXCITED. I have a heiroglyphica that I got bareroot 3 or 4 years ago from a not-great vendor before I found this board. Of all the things I got from him, it's the only plant that survived. It actually did quite well for me for several years, but suffered and dropped two leaves during my cross-country move. I can't wait for that plant to bloom, but I don't know if it ever will!

I have one of these also, my favorite Phal in my collection. I find it to be an easy grower and reliable bloomer, with buds in May that open early July. Beautiful flowers and a light almost rose-like fragrance. Congrats!

I am starting to collect a few small phal species orchids. I really like them! Hyrogliphica is totally on my list. I love any white with spots or bars orchids.

Very colourful bud. Not many buds are like that.
