Default Phalaenopsis honghenensis

Hi all,

Finally! First set of blooms since 2011. It was going to bloom last year but some pillbugs chewed on the buds. No matter, finally got it to bloom.

How unusual! What do you feed their hungry thirsty roots?

Very nice, Tindomul! Do you have anything special for the winter (e.g. cool temp)? I have a hard time convincing P. wilsonii to flower...

According to Dalstrom (Orchids, Dec. 2010 p.706-709), yours is probably classified as P. wilsonii. The type of P. honghenensis has a long spur in the lip (backside of the lateral lobes). Taxonomy of this group seems to be highly confusing.

Water with Frog poop,
I don't use any fertilizer because I have a frog in the tank.

Hi,

I don't remember what it was sold to me as, but I had used E.A. Christenson's monograph on Phalaenopsis to key it out to this species. I was really rocky about the ID so you are probably right. I have to key it out again.

Dalstrom thinks that Christenson's classification is not correct for this group. But I don't know who is "more correct" (well taxonomy involves some arbitrariness, especially with plants ). If you are interested, I can send you the article (PM me your email address).

Do you do pretty cold winter for this Phal?

Thats interesting. Always willing to read up on current classification.

Honestly, this plant has not been producing much in terms of leaves. Not sure if I am keeping it too dry or too cold. Its been warmer now than in the summer. The room where I keep it stays in the mid 60's due to the air conditioner. Now in the winter it stays in the mid 70's.
