phal. cornu-cervi var. chattaladae out of bloom

Hey guys, Kevin here. My red phal cornu-cervi bloomed for around three months and now, all three flower spikes are bare and no new flowers can be seen. Is this normal? I know that the species can throw up multiple flowers from an inflorescence for an extended period of time, but the bare stems aren't dying. Should I cut them or leave them there? Also, what is the preferred potting mix for these guys? When I bought it, it came in pretty bad-quality sphagnum.

I believe this is a species where you don't cut the stems/spikes until they dry up because it reblooms on the same spikes for years and years. I do not have any experience with this plant though, so hopefully someone else chimes in.

You can do either. If you want the plant to put energy into growing and developing more roots, you can cut the spikes. If you think it is fine, then leave them and they will extend and flower again. Might be late winter before they do it. Lots of Phals will rebloom on the same spike, but they grow through cycles of growing and blooming.

If the plant is heathy why snipped the spikes? I got my cc red in bloom in 2010 and those old spikes were just recently dried up

I usually just remove the wet moss and replace with NZ moss in the same pot on my chattalada ... It is a mother plant with 3 keikis and 12 spikes... The plant goes into a cycle of no blooms from Dec to April most years and reblooms again come spring... I suggest you keep the spikes and just replace the moss... Can be done all year long
