Interesting. I don't use it all the time, just occasionally, no more than once a month probably. But I know I had used it on this at the time the spikes were forming.

I've not had any other orchids react to it, but it was the only thing I could think of on this because it's the only thing that was different from previous years. (I've used Shropshire Seaweed on the plant in previous years, but not when it was spiking). I've also heard of other rooting hormones potentially causing such things, which is another reason I thought of it.

As I said, mine went back to normal flowers further down the spikes, and mine has flowered fine before, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yea very nice getting a normal flower. The other malformed one was still symmetrical but was missing more than just the lip. It seemed to be missing a sepal too. THanks for sharing though, I have never hear of or seen a malformation of this kind before.

Really looks great this time around! And a nice flower count. Mine is in spike at the moment, probably still 6 weeks away from blooming.

Thanks, I'm pleased with the flower count too, it's still producing buds, the first bloom is still going over. Hope yours does well too.

Wow, interesting little flower. Reminds me some of Zygopetalums.

Nice one, it's really getting to going. Mine the regular one is spiking as well. The first one is about to open then the second spike is much later. I was about to cry before it started to grow the second spike. It has since the first year I had it always had 2 spikes on it. Last year it started a 3rd but it stopped growing.

This year the first spike has baby things that look like it is trying to branch out. But they are really tiny and I am not sure they will do anything. It has never branched for me. Does any one else s ever branch?

I absolutely love this orchid I don't know why but it has always been one of my faves.
