Growing the phal stuartiana

Got no idea Adriana. Maybe species have more of a tendency to make basal keikis. I see on a couple of my fairly young, small species that they're also making keikis. And my phal 'Purple Martin' (not a species, but still) seem to be going overboard with spikes and roots and keikis all at the same time.

I quite like that...A creeping phal covering a mount with multiple crowns and loads of spikes must be close to my dream orchids.

mine was rather large when I won it at a meeting and came from Normans Orchids. It had bloomed for me and then it got beat up by a hail storm pretty badly...

I grew mine in a 3 part mix.. equal parts of Bark, Charcoal, and Dyna Rok. I kept it rather moist as it was outside all the time. Got full morning sun and then shaded from the west in the afternoons. The flowers were okey but they didnt display as well as some Ive seen, but was better than the other one at the OS show this 2013. The plant has since been disposed of. I replaced it with a phal rothschildiana. You know 1 out 1 in.

I thought I had a picture of my stuartiana with multiple basal growths but you can't see it here. I eventually lost this plant because the weight snapped the neck off of the mount.

This is P. stuartiana v nobilis 'Highjack' AM/AOS - I don't have a pic of the entire plant but you can see the branching on it.

The one picture was taken in March and the other February so your spikes should be appearing shortly.

Wow! All these pictures of how gorgeous these can be! I checked my roots and they look good with nice, green growing tips. I think the set up is working for my phal. Whew!

I'm sure in your house the growing conditions can be better than in my dark winter g/h.

Hi, Paphluvr - well, I think because of some contradictory info I got on what it liked. I keep notes on what I do with all of my 50 orchids, 'cause I could not remember, otherwise. Here are my notes:

"(name deleted - paid source) says: '60%-70% humidity. Mature plants may dry out slightly between waterings.' (name deleted - paid source) says: 'must be always moist and 82 - 85% humidity and heat'; other sources (just by googling) say 'reduce heat and humidity = reduction of water.'

I understand that an increase of heat means increase of water and a reduction of heat means decrease water. But, at this point, quite honestly, I was so darn confused I just mounted them and put them in a bright terrarium (west window) with lots of other plants, so it is getting household heat plus lots of humidity.

Who knows what will happen??
