Phal amabilis spiking! Male
Default Phal amabilis spiking!

So... if I had to pinpoint an orchid that got me started in this hobby it would be this one. Three years ago I received a phal that was out of bloom from a friend who works at Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's you know, at least down here, throws their out of bloom orchids away... it was in sorry shape. Three shriveled roots and one wrinkled leaf. With a tab that said amabilis.
Anyhow... the first year it spent adjusting and recovering, and I spent learning.
The second year it grew and thrived. It sent out a happy spike and my fiancee accidentally karate chopped it off before it could bloom.
This year it sent out another spike.. And one from last year's broken spike!!

Lol... I'll finally be able to see I'd it's actually an amabilis.

The spike go in two different directions because it's right behind the sink and gets moved a lot. Someone must've turned it around while cleaning at some point.

Lol.... I seem to do better with dried out phals rather than ones with rot.
I'm so excited to see the flowers...it will be my first time ever!!

Congrats on getting it to spike again! I will tell you though, that it is highly unlikely that it's an amabillis I can tell you that its definitely a complex hybrid.

You can?
I'm not even remotely good enough to spot such subtle differences.
I've just been waiting for it to bloom lol.
All I had to go on was the tag in the pot..
What gave it away?

I'm so happy to have two spikes this year... I felt almost cheated last year when my fiancee karate chopped it off..
Lol I was so mad..
It's almost like... it makes up for the lack if flowers last year somehow

It's because you got it from TJ's, it's very very unlikely that they would have been selling a species. It most probably has amabilis in the parentage might even be a large white, but it's doubtful that it's actually an amabilis.

What exactly does the tag say?
