The trader Joe's around here sometimes gets register hybrids or species in. Two I regret not buying are a dendrobium kultana fancy and a .... I hope I spell this right. Schilleriana phal...
It's a plain white plastic tag and it just has P. Amabillis printed on it.

Really? That's incredible! I stand corrected, I apologize! Now I wish we had a Trader Joe's!!! Imagine that Phal SPECIES at a grocery store! Great find!

Ps. schilleriana is correct, another great species!

Pps. If its a species, the species name should not be capitalized. Phalaenopsis amabilis

Lol... don't get too excited... it's mainly NOIDs. But once in a blue moon they getone in that's actually got a name.
Don't apologise. It's a perfectly normal assumption. There's no reason for a grocery store to get species in.
I'm just lucky enough to live in an area where they do sometimes.
To be honest the dendrobium and phal I mentioned were the only two I've seen on the past year that weren't NOIDs.

I regret not purchasing them. But I was broke both times.

No capitals? It's not capitalized on the tag either. To good to know!

Thats right! the genus name is capitalized as well as and clonal name. If its a hybrid, it's capitalized and not italic for the grex name

What does grex mean?
I'm new to this whole naming thing.

Someone on another post asked me to put up a picture of this.
So here it is.
In my area... micro climate specifically... our temps dip into the 30 - 40 degree range.. for the short 2 month period that's the dead of our winter.
The temps in my house remain pretty much constant with the outside temp.
Soooo my orchids are all subjects to these low temps.
The phal in this thread actually being in the coldest spot in the house.
So someone wanted to see my phal living in these temps.
