Phal equestris var. rosea

I started a new thread since I want it to get all the attention it can, being such a cutie.

This is one of the first equestris I got. It arrived in Mars this year, with a nearly over-bloomed spike (I got to enjoy the last flower for a day before it wilted at least). It has been very busy growing leaves and roots (I discovered it practically had no roots when I got it), and is now celebrating the ending of the year with two spikes.

This is the first flower to open, and I'll update the thread when more are opened.

I really love equestris rosea, the delicate pink and the round shape, not to mention its small size. It's a real darling.

Very lovely! I had to get an equestris after seeing one at an orchid society meeting. There is something about the blooms....

Nice to 'see' you again, I haven't been on OB very much the past few months. Too much work... The orchids have suffered from it as well.

Care to post a full plant picture? I'd love to add a species phal to my collection but most are rather large for my small windowsill.

Josh, you can't go wrong with Phal equestris, it's a small Phal that makes wonderful spikes! The largest leaves on any of my equestris plants are only about 5 or 6 inches. It's the perfect windowsill plant!

I haven't been very active myself. I suffered from a major burnout (still am, but I'm better now) and haven't really had the energy to be very active. And now I've started working on my drawing skills, so I hang around at different art sites mostly. This means my chids are not in the first spot on my list of hobbies any longer, but they are on the second one, which is good enough. I try to incorporate them in my drawing exercises (they are difficult to draw, not to mention paint!).

My little rosea didn't have a great root system, but it never got floppy leaves or anything, 'cause it grew new roots so fast. I was never worried about it, but was rather surprised to see the lack of roots when I repotted it, since it was so healthy looking on top. They can fool us at times these little buggers.

Josh: I agree with Camille, you can never go wrong with an equestris, and equestris var. rosea are usually smaller than other varieties of equestris as well. The largest variety would be the aurea I think.

Even then, as far as Phals go any equestris is considered small! My var. albescens is the largest (and makes basal keikis, not spike ones- so now I have 7-8 plants in one pot...) It's a nice one, white blooms with a hint of color in the lip: Phal equestris var. albescens

Yup, an equestris and schilleriana la flora are on my list next. I've expanded my growing area so I can get more of the larger orchids anyway but I'll still get smaller ones regardless.

Very cute! I just got my Phal. equestris today and its too cute. Even got a bonus little seedling in the pot! Nope, not a keiki but an honest to goodness seedling. lol
