What an adorable orchid…. Compact, miniature with pretty mottled leaves. The flowers are whimsical white and pink candy striped petals that’s very eye-catching when in bloom; reminds me of the Peter Pan fairy at dawn. This is not rare but a difficult plant to obtain, mainly because it is over harvested in its natural habitat and I am lucky to have inherited it from a grower with an orchid farm in Connecticut two years ago. I think this plant is six years old.
Plant flowers from summer to fall and this started to spike three months ago yet only opened its blooms now; it really needs a lot of patience….
They say that this is the coolest growing species of the genus; and I say this is the coolest plant in my collection.
This orchid is endemic in the forest of the Philippines at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
I grow this cool to intermediate in medium light on the east facing window of my kitchen; it is mounted in cork…. I water every other day or I keep it fairly moist but not wet and fertilizer weekly weakly with Algoflash alternated with seaweed mix.
