Chattaladae was described by David Groves based on the appearance of a single plant that was solid red...no bars showing on the inferior, proximal halves of the lateral sepals. If bars show, mthe the forma is sanguinea.

The problem and debate starts when a plant (said to be the exact same plant as Groves described) showed up on the Internet with obvious sanguinea flowers. I have a plant which has solid red (chattaladae) and sanguinea. colored flowers at the same time on the same inflorescence. I bought it as chattaladae from a reputable source.

I argue that the solid red is a cultivation controlled variable. I really have no idea how this will end up, but I suspect it will be argued to infinity.

I bought a 4N clone late last year, and it was about 80 US dollars if I remember right. It's actually the most expensive I've ever bought yet!

Dang that's cheap!! Here they're mostly 30€, which is still very much affordable, but more than I'm used to paying for an orchid. I'm toying with the idea of getting a chattaladae, I recieved a heapload of money yesterday that I didn't even know I was supposed to get until a few weeks ago, and I'm itching to buy 'chids!

Now what's not affordable is a blooming Norton blue violacea on ebay one of my favorite growers. He's asking 250€ for it!
