Phal cornu cervi - Red
I love this plant. It is a continuous flowerer and not at all demanding and not a space hog. I would highly recommend to any phal lovers. Currently has 7 flowers on 2 spikes with buds still coming.

Beautiful. She's on my wish list. First I want to see if I can keep my Equestris alive before I buy more species phals.

 Fabulous! I love the glossy blooms and the color! I've not done well with Phals in general, but have a couple doing ok right now. I'll definitely be keeping this one in mind should things continue to be ok with my current Phals. What kind of temps does this one like? |

Sonya, I will answer how I grow this one, which may not be what orchid wiz may suggest, if you want me to look that up I can do that as well. I grow it and a fair number of phal species and hybrids in a west (with some south exposure) window. If I remember I pull the blind down, sometimes though they take full afternoon sun if I forget or am not around. Temps range between 18 and 28c depending on time of year and whether we are using airconditioning or not. They are not in my sunroom (they are the overflow), so it is not as humid as I would like it to be for them, but they do ok for the most part. I have a yellow one that is also in flower now, a larger plant and very healthy.

If I decide to buy one, it would be growing together with all my other orchids in a north-west facing window with afternoon sun dimmed by a curtain. When I'm at home in the weekends and at lunchtime during the week, I open the curtain so they get more light. Do you think it may like these conditions? Temperatures can go up to 30ºC and not lower than 18-20ºC at night in summer.

I'd say that would work well, I'm not an expert but mine are doing pretty well. My experience is most phals can take more sun that what is listed without stressing the plant. Im sure yours will do well. |
