Phalaenopsis tetraspis

Bought this as a tetraspis, but it's clearly going to be from the C1 cultivar line, or speciosa depending on your point of view. Either way, should be fun to bloom out, as it looks promising for a first bloomer.

OH Yeah!!! C#1 for sure and from the looks of it so far them blooms should be nice! Congrats!

I'm assuming that he bought it as the 'standard' form of tetraspis that is supposed to have just a few spots on it, rather than the big random blotches of the C#1/speciosa (whatever it is). I've actually noticed that (at least here in Canada), the standard tetraspis is harder to find than C#1.

I understand that Cody, but tetraspis and speciosa are two different species, not two color forms of the same thing.

It seems premature to be jumping to identification when the flowers have not even opened. Note that the color or color pattern is a minor issue in the identification of a plant not a defining characteristic.

Certainly this would not be first time an orchid was poorly identified. Sometimes I think it's more likely than not, but you have a hard time deciding that even with the flower open, much less just looking at the bud.

Miss Molly, all of what you said is fair and accurate. However, given the blotch size, this is not a standard small blotch or full white tetraspis. I have another of those, and this is not the expected blotch pattern of their buds. So far as I know, or at least I've seen, the C1 cultivar (be it tetraspis or speciosa, that's another discussion entirely) is the only one that shows this kind of full sepal/petal blotching. Being that I'm fairly new, probably tough to say that much longer, I could be wrong. But given my other tetraspis that bloom out, these buds appear very different.
But I do agree on holding the horses a bit. We'll just slow them from a jog to a walk...

Heres my speciosa c1. It is in bloom now. Sadly it has black rot, no telling if it'll survive or not.

It sure is and no treatment yet aside from physan. I haven't managed to get any bact/fungicide yet as I don't know what to get. Phyton I'm told, is a risky chem to use.
