I'm off to Singapore & Vietnam soon - Phalaenopsis nurseries to buy flasks?

Hi everybody,

I'm not 100% certain if this is the right place but I figured this is a good spot to target specifically Phalaenopsis spp. Does anyone know of any good nurseries in Singapore or Vietnam where one can buy flasks of species? Under Australian Quarantine laws I'm allowed to bring back 6 flasks in hand luggage - there's four of us going! that could be another 24 species to add to my collection

I have done a search of the forum and come up with a few potential contacts but I haven't found a lot on here

Hello !

As far as I know, there are no nurseries here in land scares Singapore that does their own crossings, at least not anymore.

They might provide Lab services and importing of phals from Taiwan, Malaysia ......

If you are looking to buy flasks, there's a group of hobbyists who have a huge collection of phals and they do their own crossings all the time resulting in lots of spare flasks.

Thanks everyone for your input... I'm wondering - due to the way my flights/travels are going to work out - would it be feasible to get nurseries from other countries to send flasks to me at my hotel in Vietnam? Basically the way my flights are working is i'll be going to singapore, staying there for a bit, then flying out of singapore to vietnam (potential quarantine issue there) staying there for a few days and then flying back to singapore and transferring to a flight back home... I don't know what the quarantine laws are in regard taking flasks in to vietnam from other countries and back out again. So would it be easier/feasible to get flasks sent to me in Singapore? Would i need any import permits from the vietnam authorities to do that? If so then theoretically i could get flasks from thailand, taiwan, china etc. If that sounds feasible then what nurseries should i look at in those countries? I want good quality species! i aspire to Joseph Wu Phals but sadly i don't have that $$$

its an idea. I see a couple of Thai vendors on e-bay.
I was at a presentation at the local orchid society that talked about all the orchids available in Thailand. They apparentyl mostly specialise in vanda-types, I am not sure what you are looking for.

If possible, perhaps you might want to plan your trip from the 7th-15th of July.

There will be a garden festival which lots of vendors from around Asia and perhaps the US too that will be here.
And trust me there will be alot to buy, just bring lots of $$$$$
