I have really enjoyed this discussion. I'm going to see if one of our AOS judges can shed some light on this (thanks for the advice goodgollymissmolly!). I had no idea my plant could be so interesting. Since I also have a wilsoni seedling (and the leaves look quite different), my curiosity is piqued!

I'm new when it comes to taxonomy but from reading the posts here and looking thing up in chrostenson's phalaenopsis a monograph, I agree with Camille it really looks like a braquestris melmi to my untrained eye.

Just got a braceana last week. It had two leaves that my dog ate off the plant. The roots look great and it is mounted under moderate light and cool/intermediate temp. How often do these plants grow leaves, and do they like to dry out totally between watering? Any suggestions on how to bring it back to life?

Depends if you or dog ate the crown of the plant along with the leaves... If the crown is in one piece, then I think you should see a new leaf soon hopefully, a healthy plant should be able to quickly replace those that were lost.

The crown is intact. So I hope for the best.
Thanks. Andre

I agree with the others, it's definitely a Braquestris "Melmi", I think (I have to add the "I think" being a newbie and all) I knew I recognized this fellow from somewhere, found it again at one of the European vendors: Braquestris "Melmi".

I think I have to out this guy on my wishlist too, it's really beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us!
