Default Phal amabilis

I had 3 blooms on this very small orchid. It had bad roots just like all the other phals I seem to get. With one good root and in a "jarworld" it has survived.

The bloom is just so damn good looking I had to post it..Otherwise pretty insignificant plant.

maybe it grow some leaves and some roots now

It is really pretty. If I saw one of these for sale, somewhere, it would probably come home with me.

Nice bloom! Any specific culture pointers? I bought one last year in spike but it never opened its buds. They just sat there for months and eventually opened third of the way and dried up. I repotted it and it had good roots. The phal is in spike now again but I'm afraid it's the same thing. It's taking a long time to grow buds compared to other Phals I have. Maybe I'm just impatient.

How cute, and it sparkles!! Seems like you did a good job already of getting it to recover from root rot.

thanks you all

yes jane these are very very time consuming from bud to blooming. took about 2 months for all 3 buds to open up and I say dec 2011 is when it started to form. so over 4 months total time.

I put this one in small fir bark, planted into a net basket surrounded by moss and then put in a fishbowl jar.

I didn't ever let it get too dry when it had buds. The plant has been outside for the most part. I put all 6 of my phals out for the temp drops in dec. and see how many spiked..3 of them and this one..Ya want phal spikes drop them temps. So its been kept very cool and on the drier side of evenly moist. It has even managed to get some morning sun.. I hope that helped some.

Thanks for the info, it does help. I think my amabilis is taking even longer than yours to develop buds. It started a spike at the end of November and still has 2 cm buds on it now. I may be keeping my amabilis on a dry side a bit. Not sure if it is a contributing factor but worth a change. I like your method of planting it into bark and surrounding it with moss. I might try that.
