Nope, no spots...I spray Phal flowers with the tepid cinnamon mix to kill bugs...I dont get spots: you can look at the Phal Sogo I posted it just got sprayed with water a week before I took the pictures...but I use a misting spray not the industrial spray kind

Thanks to all for the advice. I heavy misting/steaming tonight when I get off work. How quickly after should they pop?

Silken,

As my user name implies, I'm primarily a Paph. grower but do have many other orchids. I always make it a point to water in the morning so the plants have a chance to dry and I don't place them in direct sunlight until they do. Of course if you're growing in a greenhouse the second part is impossible to do. I've never had a problem with the buds spotting using this method.

Well I tried misting the buds and placing the plant in a steamy room for a couple of hours. The next day, no change. So I misted again and used a low-heat, low fan hair dryer for a minutes or two. Finally I did the gentle pinch technique, which did finally part the petals from the dorsal sepal. That was two days ago, and they haven't open much more. (see attached) I fear that I waited too long before trying to coax them to open.

Well, all you can do at this point is wait. I think they'll open just fine.(I hope)

That's already progress compared to what they were like before! Hopefully some extra time is all they need to (nearly) fully open.
