Is this Bellina Ready to Repot?
hello all! This is a Bellina i got from Normans orchids and it was amazing when it was in bloom, but its been out of bloom for months now and it has been doing nothing! now all of a sudden it is making a new leaf and a ton of new roots. i would also like to try a slightly different potting mix this time
Would it be OK to re-pot this plant at this time?

My experience has been that phals don't mind being repotted at all. It always seems to have more of a positive effect on the plant than a negative one. Good luck.

I agree with Tucker, timing doesn't seem to matter to Phals. I've emergency repotted them in while bloom with no bad results !

Sounds like the perfect time to repot even, those news roots will settle in the new pot in no time at all. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw even crazier growth, repotting seems to have a doping effect on my Phals

Phals always seem to respond really well to repotting.
You won't believe how quickly it will recover.

Hello!
I also have a bellina and it is a summer bloomer... it needs lots of light to bloom!

I like to use the smallest pot that the roots will comfortably fit in. If you use a 3" or maybe even a 4" pot, I find that moss can work well. Moss can be problematic in pots over 4". Since you want to use a clay pot it will dry pretty quickly and moss should work well.
If the plant is pretty large and you need to use a pot larger than 4", I would recommend that you consider a bark mix or coconut husk chip mix. Good luck.

Thanks a ton Tucker! This is incredibly helpful!!!! Its has pretty much filled its 4 inch pot with roots. they arise out of the top of the moss and circle and the plastic pot is rigid with roots. i will have to go up a size maybe two. so i have a bark mix already but i have read that the CHC holds more moisture so i think i will invest in some of that

You can also use a bark mix with with chopped sphag added to it, adjusting the fraction you based on how much extra water retention you want. I like using that mix for orchids transitioning from pure sphag, since they are used to more moisture. When I was still living in France I used that mix a lot since the climate was much drier than up here.
