Cody I'm sorry. I really am. I will do my best to do right by this pot though. I know you probably want the experience of growing them but if I'm successful with them I'd love to share the wealth.

Thanks! There are many other chances for me to get a gigantea (Ten Shin has them for sale, and they are going to a few orchid shows this fall), and I am sure Peter will have more by spring! I really hope they grow well for you, and I am hoping to see blooms in five or so years!

I know I know...thus begins the long slough of dedication. I just couldn't afford the mature plants and the half way there plants never look that great and I don't know of their quality. I know the quality of these guys so I went for it.

I agree that gigantea's get expensive fast as they age! I want to get small seedlings, so that by the time they are older, I should have the room for a larger plant or two!

I just bought a phal gigantea from hausermann's. They have them for $7.99

It's a tiny little plant: two leaves that are just over 2 inches long. But I'd much rather wait, than risk $100+ on a singe plant.

I thought about getting one or five from them but never did. Mostly because I don't know the parentage and for no good reason I like to know I suppose because I'm picky about the look of the blooms. I'll admit my pot wasn't 8 bucks but indie get a bunch of plants too that have the same dimensions you mention. Either way, we all begin the waiting and growin game!!!!

If you don't mind waiting about 5 years for a plant that young, sure 7.99 is a good deal. I dont, especially with the parents used for my compot. But some of the ones available from Krull smith ($100 for BS) and Orchids limited ($150, for BS) have seen some really nice flowers out of them. If you know what you're doing in terms of culture, it's not much of a risk, with quicker blooming.

Normally I would be fine without knowing exactly what the parents would look like, but for gigantea, a plant that takes up much time and space to get to bloom, I agree that I would try my hardest to get one that was made with parents that appeal to me.

I definitely understand wanting to know what the parents look like.

In my case, I don't actually care all that much for the gigantea flowers themselves...:-/ Maybe if I saw one in person, I'd think differently, but all the pictures I've seen online seem rather drab.

I think the giant leaves are what's really cool, and I figure I'll get to enjoy those regardless of what the parents looked like (as long as I manage not to kill the plant)

I contemplated those, too. I don't know what drove me to this pot. What does BS stand for? I have a guess but surely it isn't orchid related!
