Phal Schilleriana

So far all three flowers that have opened are dreadful. For whatever reason they are deformed.

Is it the first time blooming for the plant?

I think it is although it was a large plant when I got it. I'm almost certain this is it's first flowering and that being the case it is forgiven lol. There are no other old spikes on the plant.

Sorry to hear/see that. The blooms are still beautiful, and I'm sure they'll be fine in the future. Hey, you could snip off the spike and let it bloom fresh buds? That's what I would do, seeing as it's a big healthy plant.

Sorry you're having a problem with that orchid. Why does it look like there's red light in the picture?

Tucker may be right, though he might not know it. Any chance those are LEDs, and maybe the flowers are a bit off because of that? I have no experience with them, but could see light issues causing flower problems.
Also, it could be a nutrient deficiency as well. Dont know though.

The colour is a bit off too. All other flowers that have grown with the LED lights are perfect; most of them are phals. I think it's just because this is the first flowering. I'll cut he spike back once all the flowers have been open a while and see what happens. If it's still flowering like this and most of the flowers are affected I'll give it the heave lol.

Reds are enhanced more because there are red LED's built into the light as well as white, blue and yellow.

If this is the first time blooming for you, give her another chance. Cull if it happens again unless you find its environmental. Any chance there are mites? Doesn't quite fit the bill but the deformity is a possible mite issue-- just a guess to throw out there.

I have a schillie-- mine was enormous and had huge splays of blooms until I neglected it a bit too long-- lost most of its roots and leaves and it hardly chugging along. I may have set the mother plant back further by applying keiki paste but I felt the plant was dying anyway. I have tons of keikis but no roots yet!

Good luck with your keikis! I think mine will flower much better next time too. There are no mites there but it was a possibility. All of the other flowers, catts, phals and slippers have been fine and they have been getting identical treatment. I think this is a first timer.

Not to hijack the conversation, but can someone explain the schilleriana that don't have mottled leaves? If you google Phal schilleriana, you only get pics of the mottled leaves. But this post and another post I saw some time ago showed leaved that are longer, narrower, slightly folded, and a different color green altogether.
