Individual Species Characteristics
Does anyone know of a resource that lists each phal specie characteristics ? For example - equistris - typically would be multi-branched and multi-flowered or violacea - can rebloom off old flower spikes, that type of thing. I am looking for a detailed synopsis that, together with Orchidwiz geneaology, will aid in working out which characteristics are passed down to progeny. Allied to that is there a resource ( other than orchidvault ) for ploidy ? It really is a pity that orchidwiz doesn't have a "ploidy" listed for each hybrid.

You can get a lot of good information by just doing a Google search for the species. I have a book called 'Moth Orchids' by Steven Frowine. The purpose of the book is to cover the latest trends in phalaenopsis breeding. It's a good resource. It has one chapter on species where it describes each species and has one paragraph about what that species contributes to hybrids. I found it to be an interesting book and I think it would be an excellent resource for anyone interested in breeding.

I am not sure this is what you are asking for, but IOSP combined with Phalaenopsis Orchids : species and primary hybrids might be of some help, i hope
At least there is a lot of pictures of the differences there is in orchids from the same species.

You might also want to check out the Baker's Orchid Species Culture book on Phal's. Go to their website and you can view some of their free culture sheets to see if this type of information would be helpful. The book itself is relatively cheap if you buy it used on Amazon, but it can be expensive otherwise.
I'm looking at their book now and they will have the name (as it was in the 90's when the book was published) and the AKA's. Also, it will have origin/habitat, climate records from weather stations in that region (giving AVG MAX, MIN Diurnal Range, Rainfall, jhumidity and typical bloom times), light range, water pattern notes, fertilizer, rest periods, growing mediu, and mescellaneous notes. Then they go into the Plant and Flower Information: Plant size and type, leaves description, inflorescence discription (long, arching to suberect and usually branching, etc...), flower information and hubridizing notes.

Seems like Bakers in OrchidWiz should have what you're looking for.

The bakers website is not a part of orchidwiz. It's a completely different website and not affiliated in anyway.

Or do you mean to say that orchidwiz has their information available on their website?
